Cuttin’ A Rug Show Run
GTPs production of the second instalment in John Byrne’s Slab Boys trilogy, Cuttin’ A Rug followed on from their Slab Boys production in October 2023. Some actors returned as their characters: June as Sadie, Shay as Spanky, Cameron as Alan and Garry as Mr Curry. Previous characters Lucille, Phil and Hector were played by Holly, Hamish and Daniel, respectively. The new characters of Miss Walkinshaw, Bernadette and Terry were played by Lesley, Riyana and Ethan, respectively. The first act was set in the Paisley Town Hall toilets on the night of the ‘Staffie’, the A F Stobbo Christmas Dance. And we saw the characters getting ready for the dance and their comical misunderstandings. Act Two took place on the balcony outside the dance hall and what with continued electrical faults, plunging the set into ‘darkness’, and further continued misunderstandings it ended with Spanky summing up, ‘So … who cares? I’m nineteen with a wardrobe full of clothes … I’ve got everything to live for!
